NMDPRA SEALED 11 PETROL STATIONS IN RIVERS FOR UNDER-DISPENSING, OTHERS

6TH FEBRUARY, 2026 | PORT HARCOURT – The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has sealed 11 petrol stations in Rivers State for regulatory violations, including under-dispensing of fuel, malfunctioning pumps, and other infractions.

The affected stations are located across Obio-Akpor and Port Harcourt City Local Government Areas. The enforcement was carried out under NMDPRA’s ongoing “Operation One Litre for One Litre” initiative, aimed at ensuring consumers receive the full volume of petroleum products purchased.

“We have upscaled our surveillance activities to ensure that the public gets one litre for one litre. Any station found outside the permissible bandwidth will be shut down until pumps are verified and calibrated,” Victor Owodiasa, NMDPRA South-South Regional Coordinator, told journalists.

Owodiasa stressed that the action is not only corrective but also preventive, warning that persistent offenders may face license revocation. He confirmed that three gas dispensing outlets were also sealed for similar violations.

“Cheating the public, whether willfully or due to mechanical error, will not be tolerated. Operators must regularly check their meters and comply with regulations at all times,” he added.

The authority highlighted that all liquid and gas products sold to consumers must adhere strictly to regulatory standards. Consumers are encouraged to report suspected violations to NMDPRA for prompt enforcement.

“Non-compliance undermines trust and creates non-tariff barriers. Our zero-tolerance policy ensures fair trade, safety, and compliance across all service stations,” Owodiasa said.

The NMDPRA’s enforcement drive is part of a broader strategy to protect consumer rights, promote transparency, and maintain integrity in the petroleum sector, reinforcing confidence in fuel distribution across the South-South region.
