REP AKINGBASO DENIES VIRAL VIOLENCE CLAIM, URGES CALM IN IDANRE


The media team of Festus Akingbaso, a member of the House of Representatives, has dismissed as false a viral social media allegation claiming that the lawmaker is planning or sponsoring violence in Idanre ahead of the forthcoming local government congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement issued on Friday, the team described the circulating post as misleading and malicious, asserting that it was designed to create panic and damage the reputation of the federal lawmaker representing Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency.

According to the statement, the allegation is entirely baseless and appears to be the handiwork of individuals seeking to incite unrest and heighten political tension within the constituency.

The media team stressed that Akingbaso, popularly known as Fessy West, has consistently advocated peaceful political engagement, youth empowerment, and community development. It maintained that he has never supported or encouraged violence, intimidation, or any act capable of disrupting public order.

Describing the viral publication as a deliberate attempt to misinform the public, the statement warned that the spread of unverified content could undermine the peace and stability currently enjoyed in Idanre and Ifedore communities.


The team urged members of the public to disregard the allegations and refrain from sharing unverified information that could cause division or unrest. It emphasized that political activities, including party congresses, should be conducted peacefully and in line with democratic principles.

The statement also called on security agencies to investigate the origin of the viral post and ensure that individuals responsible for spreading false or inflammatory claims are held accountable in accordance with the law.

Reaffirming the lawmaker’s commitment to unity and development, the media team stated that Akingbaso remains focused on fostering collaboration among stakeholders and advancing socio-economic progress across the constituency.
