TINUBU PLEDGES FEDERAL SUPPORT ON SECURITY, INFRASTRUCTURE
Akure, Ondo State — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has pledged the Federal Government’s continued support for Ondo State in the areas of security and infrastructure development as the state marked its 50th anniversary on Tuesday.
The state capital, Akure, witnessed heightened activity as political leaders, traditional rulers and other stakeholders from across the country gathered for the Golden Jubilee celebration.
Dignitaries present at the event included Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji, Ondo State Deputy Governor Olayide Adelami, former Ondo State Governor Dr Olusegun Mimiko, Minister of Youth Development Ayodele Olawande, Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, as well as traditional rulers, religious leaders and other notable personalities.
Speaking at the celebration held at the Akure Township Stadium, President Tinubu said his administration remains committed to supporting Ondo State in effectively harnessing its human and natural resources to achieve sustainable development.
The President’s address, delivered on his behalf by the Minister of Interior, reaffirmed his commitment to governing the country in a manner that is fair, equitable and inclusive, regardless of religion, political affiliation or social background.
“Fifty years ago, Ondo State was created to empower its people, harness local talent and bring governance closer to communities,” Tinubu said.
“Today, we celebrate a state that has distinguished itself in education, public service, culture and economic contribution. The people of Ondo State have consistently demonstrated diligence, innovation and unity. They have produced leaders, educators, professionals and citizens whose contributions have shaped Nigeria’s growth and stability.”
The President described the Golden Jubilee as both a reflection on past achievements and a roadmap for future progress, noting that Ondo State is endowed with fertile land, a long coastline, mineral resources and a vibrant youth population.
He identified agriculture, education, technology, tourism and the blue economy as key sectors where the state can expand opportunities and drive inclusive growth.
“Under the Renewed Hope Agenda, the Federal Government remains committed to supporting Ondo State by improving infrastructure, strengthening security and empowering communities, ensuring that every citizen benefits from growth and development,” Tinubu stated.
He also called on residents of the state to embrace unity and collective responsibility in building a prosperous future.
“I urge you to work together to make Ondo State a centre of innovation and education, a hub of agricultural and technological excellence, and a place where every citizen can achieve their full potential,” the President added.
In his remarks, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa congratulated residents on the milestone, describing the anniversary as a moment for reflection and renewed commitment.
“As we celebrate our past with pride, we must also confront our present with honesty and courage. Fifty years is a major milestone that compels us to ask a defining question: what kind of Ondo State are we deliberately building for the next 50 years?” Aiyedatiwa said.
The governor stressed that his administration remains guided by the principle that development must be people-centred, inclusive and sustainable.
“Governance, in our view, must translate into improved lives, expanded opportunities and restored confidence in public institutions,” he added.
