OYO STATE HOLDS THANKSGIVING SERVICES ACROSS 33 LGAs AS GOVERNOR LEADS WORSHIP AT AREMO CATHEDRAL
Oyo State on Sunday held thanksgiving services across its 33 local government areas as part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of the creation of the state, with Governor Seyi Makinde leading worship at the Cathedral of St. Peter, Aremo, Ibadan.
The thanksgiving service formed part of Day 7 of the #OyoStateAt50 celebrations, providing an avenue for residents and leaders to collectively express gratitude to God for the state’s journey, progress, and preservation over the past five decades.
Speaking at the service in Ibadan, Governor Makinde said the state had much to be thankful for, noting that the thanksgiving services held simultaneously across all local government areas underscored a shared commitment to gratitude, unity, and reflection.
The governor expressed appreciation to former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, and Her Excellency, Chief Mrs. Titilola Adeleke, for joining the state in commemorating the historic milestone.
He described their presence as a demonstration of solidarity and goodwill, adding that the golden jubilee celebration was not only about marking the passage of time but also about acknowledging God’s faithfulness and mercy toward Oyo State and its people.
Governor Makinde noted that the thanksgiving services were designed to bring citizens together in prayer and reflection, regardless of location, as a reminder of shared values and collective responsibility for the future of the state.
According to him, the state’s 50-year journey has been shaped by resilience, sacrifice, and cooperation among successive administrations and residents, stressing the importance of sustaining peace, development, and good governance in the years ahead.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to policies that promote inclusive development, unity, and accountability, while urging citizens to remain steadfast, prayerful, and committed to the progress of Oyo State.
The thanksgiving service at the Cathedral of St. Peter, Aremo, was attended by government officials, religious leaders, community representatives, and worshippers, while similar services were held across the state’s 33 local government areas.
The Oyo State @ 50 celebrations continue with a series of activities reflecting on the state’s past achievements, present responsibilities, and future aspirations.
