OYO INDUCTS NEARLY 4,000 PRIMARY HEALTHCARE WORKERS TO BOOST GRASSROOTS SERVICES


Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has formally inducted 3,933 newly recruited primary healthcare workers into the state workforce as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery at the grassroots level.

The induction ceremony was held on Thursday at the Orientation and Unveiling of the Operational Guidelines Programme at the Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall, University College Hospital, Ibadan.

Governor Makinde said the recruitment was designed to address critical human resource gaps in the health sector, improve healthcare worker-to-population ratios, reduce workload pressure on existing staff, and enhance the quality of service delivery and patient satisfaction across the state.

He assured the newly inducted workers that his administration would continue to prioritise their welfare, adding that the state government plans to renovate and equip at least one standard secondary healthcare facility in each geopolitical zone of Oyo State.

The governor emphasised that healthcare delivery remains central to his administration’s development agenda, noting that bringing quality healthcare closer to communities would significantly resolve challenges in the sector.

According to him, while investments have been made in renovating primary healthcare centres and providing modern facilities, the presence of qualified and motivated personnel remains the most critical factor in delivering effective healthcare services.

Governor Makinde urged the healthcare workers to discharge their duties with dedication and professionalism, assuring them that the government would provide the necessary support to enable them to perform efficiently.

He described the recruitment process as merit-based and encouraged the new workers to see themselves as partners in delivering quality, equitable and compassionate healthcare services to residents across the state.

The governor also reiterated his administration’s commitment to prompt payment of salaries and improved welfare packages, stressing that worker motivation remains a priority as the state continues to expand its healthcare infrastructure and services.

In separate goodwill messages, representatives of local government councils, professional bodies and international health organisations commended the Oyo State Government for the large-scale recruitment, describing it as a significant step toward strengthening the state’s healthcare system.

The event was attended by top government officials, including members of the Oyo State Executive Council, lawmakers, local government chairmen, health sector stakeholders, labour leaders and religious leaders.
