REMI TINUBU CALLS FOR NATIONAL UNITY, SAYS DIVISION THREATENS NIGERIA’S FUTURE
First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has urged Nigerians to embrace unity and collective purpose, warning that national progress cannot be achieved in a divided society.
She made the call on Thursday while accepting an award at the Leadership Annual Conference and Awards 2025 held in Abuja.
Addressing an audience that included former heads of state, senior government officials, governors, lawmakers, traditional rulers, and international dignitaries, the First Lady stressed the need for Nigerians to work together across cultural and religious lines to secure a stable and prosperous future.
“The future of our nation depends on our willingness to work together across cultural and religious differences for the good of all. For a house divided against itself cannot stand,” she said.
Mrs. Tinubu described the recognition as a collective achievement rather than a personal honour, dedicating the award to women, young people, and community leaders across the country.
“I do not take this honour alone,” she stated. “This award is for all those who have helped me along the way, especially women, young people and community leaders who work tirelessly every day to uplift others and ignite hope in our nation.”
Among dignitaries present at the event were former First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Dr. Amina Mohammed, state governors, federal lawmakers, and traditional rulers.
The First Lady commended the Chairman of Leadership Newspaper, Mrs. Zainab Nda-Isaiah, for sustaining and expanding the vision of the organisation’s late founding chairman, Mr. Sam Nda-Isaiah. She praised the newspaper’s commitment to journalism that informs and strengthens democratic values.
“I believe that looking down today, he would be proud of you for keeping the fire of this organisation burning,” she said.
Mrs. Tinubu also acknowledged the presence of governors from Imo, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Yobe, and Zamfara states, as well as other senior officials.
She gave special recognition to Dr. Amina Mohammed, describing her keynote address as timely and insightful, and commended her longstanding contributions to Africa’s development.
Describing her attendance at the event as personally significant, the First Lady said it provided an opportunity to honour outstanding individuals and to begin the year with renewed commitment to service.
“I dedicate this award to every citizen who believes that selflessness and humaneness can truly change lives,” she added, encouraging Nigerians to remain committed to building a united and prosperous nation.
