SECURITY AGENTS ALLEGEDLY MOVE TO ARREST EL-RUFAI AT ABUJA AIRPORT, AIDE CLAIMS

Security agents allegedly attempted to arrest former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Thursday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, shortly after his arrival from Cairo, Egypt.

The allegation was made by El-Rufai’s Media Adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye, in a statement shared via his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on February 12, 2026.

According to Adekeye, security operatives approached the former governor as he disembarked from his flight and sought to take him into custody. He stated that El-Rufai declined to accompany the officers, insisting that he would not honour the request in the absence of a formal invitation or warrant.

“Security agents today attempted to arrest Malam Nasir El-Rufai as he arrived on a flight from Cairo. Malam El-Rufai declined to follow them without a formal invitation,” the statement read.

Adekeye further alleged that during the encounter, the operatives seized El-Rufai’s passport from one of his aides.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official confirmation or response from the relevant security agencies regarding the incident.

El-Rufai, who served as Governor of Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023, has recently been in the news over claims that he could face arrest, although authorities have not publicly announced any charges against him.

Further details are expected as the situation develops.
