TINUBU HAS DELIVERED ON KEY PROMISES, OPPOSITION FACES TOUGH 2027 BATTLE — OMOKRI
Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms have fulfilled major campaign commitments, arguing that the opposition may face significant challenges in the 2027 presidential election.
Omokri made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, where he assessed the current political landscape and the performance of the Tinubu administration since assuming office in May 2023.
According to him, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has strengthened its political foothold across the country, which he believes could influence the 2027 electoral dynamics.
“If the opposition could not defeat Tinubu with about 20 governors in 2023, how are they going to defeat him now with about 30 governors?” he said.
Omokri, who was recently appointed ambassador-designate, also referenced Nigeria’s macroeconomic performance, citing what he described as improvements in key economic indicators.
He pointed to remarks attributed to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), stating that Nigeria’s reform policies have received international attention.
“Recently, IMF officials referenced Nigeria’s reform efforts in discussions about policy adjustments in other countries,” he noted.
On economic performance, Omokri claimed that Nigeria has recorded growth in manufacturing capacity and overall Gross Domestic Product (GDP) since Tinubu assumed office.
“Since May 2023, Nigeria has seen notable economic adjustments. We have improved our manufacturing capacity and added significant value to GDP,” he stated.
He also addressed fuel supply and pricing, arguing that petrol availability has improved compared to previous periods.
“Fuel availability has stabilised, and price adjustments have occurred multiple times under this administration,” he said.
Omokri further maintained that ordinary Nigerians are experiencing economic impact differently from elite political actors.
“The political debate often reflects elite interests, but many citizens assess governance based on daily realities such as fuel access and market purchasing power,” he added.
His comments come amid early political positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections, as opposition parties explore coalition strategies while the APC consolidates its influence in several states through defections and alliances.
Political analysts note that while incumbency and party structure are significant advantages, voter sentiment, economic realities, and coalition-building will likely play defining roles as the election cycle approaches.
