Tinubu Mediates as Fubara and Wike Exit Presidential Villa Together

Tinubu Mediates as Fubara and Wike Exit Presidential Villa Together

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike left the Presidential Villa in the same vehicle on Sunday night after separate meetings with President Bola Tinubu, according to sources familiar with the discussions.

While the two political figures arrived at the Villa separately, they departed together following the President’s intervention, a symbolic gesture suggesting a potential easing of tensions between them.

A source said, “They did not come together, but both left the Villa in the same vehicle. This indicates that a settlement may have been reached.”

The meeting marks a potential turning point in the ongoing political disagreement in Rivers State, which began shortly after Fubara assumed office in May 2023. Tensions escalated in October 2023 when members of the Rivers State House of Assembly aligned with Wike initiated impeachment proceedings against Fubara.

In response, the governor relocated the Assembly sessions to temporary quarters after a fire damaged the Assembly complex. Subsequent months saw a governance impasse in the oil-rich state.

President Tinubu had previously intervened in December 2023, facilitating a temporary peace deal. However, the arrangement later broke down, prompting Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in March 2025, suspending the governor’s executive powers temporarily. The emergency rule ended in September 2025 following further mediation.

The recent meeting signals another step toward stabilising the political environment in Rivers State, though details of discussions remain confidential.
