TRUMP HIGHLIGHTS NIGERIA’S FIRST LADY REMI TINUBU AT NATIONAL PRAYER BREAKFAST
US President Donald Trump on Thursday publicly acknowledged Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, DC, praising her leadership in faith and her role in the country’s religious life.
The annual event, attended by members of the US Congress, religious leaders, and international guests, saw Trump recognize Tinubu as he addressed attendees on matters of faith and global religious freedom.
“We’re honored to be joined today by the First Lady of Nigeria, who also serves as a Christian pastor at the largest church in Nigeria—a very respected woman. First Lady, please, where are you? Thank you very much. It’s a great honor,” Trump said, acknowledging her presence in the audience.
Senator Tinubu is an ordained pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, one of Nigeria’s largest and most influential Pentecostal denominations, founded by Pastor Enoch Adeboye.
The remarks come amid continued international attention on Nigeria’s security situation. In late 2025, Trump designated Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” over alleged attacks on Christians—a move rejected by the Nigerian government, which described the claims as inaccurate and potentially harmful to national unity.
The Federal Government has consistently maintained that Nigeria’s security challenges stem from terrorism and criminality affecting citizens of all faiths, affirming constitutional protections for religious freedom for both Muslims and Christians.
