TURKEY CONDEMNS KWARA TERROR ATTACK, VOWS SUPPORT FOR NIGERIA AGAINST TERRORISM

The Republic of Türkiye has condemned the recent terrorist attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, describing the incident as heinous and expressing solidarity with Nigeria.

In a statement issued on Thursday by Türkiye’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the country said it was deeply saddened by the loss of lives resulting from the attack.

Türkiye extended condolences to the families of the victims and to the Nigerian government and people, while reaffirming its commitment to supporting Nigeria’s efforts to combat terrorism.

The statement noted that Türkiye strongly condemns acts of violence against civilians and will continue to stand with Nigeria in addressing security challenges linked to terrorism.

The attack occurred on Tuesday evening when armed assailants reportedly stormed the affected communities around 5pm. Witness accounts indicate that the attackers arrived on motorcycles, surrounded the villages and opened fire from multiple directions, leaving residents with little chance to escape.

More than 75 people were reportedly killed during the assault, while survivors fled the communities in fear, abandoning their homes.

A resident who survived the attack said the gunmen encircled the area before launching sustained gunfire, adding that those who attempted to flee were shot, while others were rounded up.

According to the eyewitness, several villagers were taken to the palace of the traditional ruler, where some were tied up and shot, while others were abducted.

He further disclosed that the wife, mother and three children of the village head were among those taken away by the attackers.

Nigerian security authorities have since condemned the incident and pledged to track down those responsible, while the Kwara State Government has assured residents that measures are being taken to restore calm and prevent further attacks.
