TRUMP WARNS TERROR GROUPS AGAINST ATTACKS ON CHRISTIANS, CITES NIGERIA SECURITY CONCERNS

Former United States President Donald Trump has warned terrorist groups against attacking Christian communities, saying such actions would attract strong and decisive responses.

Trump made the remarks on Thursday in Washington, DC, while addressing participants at the National Prayer Breakfast, where he spoke on global security and religious freedom.

According to him, terrorist groups targeting Christians are aware that such attacks would provoke firm action.

“When Christians come under attack, terrorists know what is coming,” Trump said, adding that his administration would not tolerate violence against religious communities.

His comments were made amid renewed international focus on Nigeria’s security challenges, following earlier claims by Trump and some United States lawmakers that Christian communities in parts of the country face persistent attacks.

Trump used the forum to outline his administration’s approach to combating extremist groups globally, stating that decisive military action had previously weakened terrorist networks.

He specifically referenced the activities of the Islamic State (ISIS), claiming that the group had carried out attacks against Christians in Nigeria.

Trump said ISIS had been significantly degraded during his time in office but alleged that the group regained strength during the period he was out of power.

He further warned that extremist groups would not be allowed to continue targeting civilians, stressing that his administration would respond forcefully if such violence persisted.

Nigeria’s government has, in previous responses, rejected claims that attacks in the country are driven by religious targeting, maintaining that the nation’s security challenges are complex and cut across ethnic, religious, and regional lines.

Security analysts have also noted that Nigeria’s insurgency and banditry problems involve multiple armed groups operating for varying motives, including criminal and ideological reasons.
