WIKE INSPECTS SATELLITE TOWN ROADS, VOWS TIMELY COMPLETION ACROSS FCT

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to completing key road infrastructure projects across satellite towns in Abuja, assuring residents that ongoing works will deliver visible results within the year.

Wike disclosed this on Friday during an inspection tour of several satellite communities, including Karu, Karshi, Apo, Bwari and Kubwa. He said the road development programme was being implemented in line with a directive from President Bola Tinubu to ensure inclusive infrastructure growth beyond Abuja’s city centre.

According to the minister, the current administration is prioritising long-neglected communities by expanding a resilient and interconnected road network to boost mobility, economic activity and overall living conditions.

He cited Karu as an example of progress, noting that road reconstruction in the area is being handled by an indigenous construction firm.

“All the roads in Karu have been reconstructed by a Nigerian contractor, Abdul Val Constructions Company, and the quality of work is commendable,” Wike said during the inspection.

The minister also addressed the long-delayed Apo–Karshi Road project, describing it as a strategic corridor that required urgent intervention. He explained that the original contract was terminated due to prolonged delays and subsequently re-awarded to SCC Construction Company, which has commenced work.

“The Apo–Karshi Road is too important to remain abandoned. After rescinding the previous contract, we re-awarded it, and work is now progressing steadily,” he stated.

Wike further highlighted the Bwari–Kubwa Road as another critical project expected to stimulate economic activities across surrounding communities. He said the road would significantly improve access and reduce travel time for residents and commuters.

“The Bwari–Kubwa Road is a vital structural development that will open up economic opportunities for communities along the corridor,” he added.

Beyond major highways, the minister disclosed that several link roads are also under construction across various satellite towns as part of a broader infrastructure expansion strategy.

“These projects represent massive infrastructure development. Many residents are experiencing proper road networks for the first time, and this will have a positive impact on the local economy,” Wike said.

During the inspection, concerns were raised over refuse management along the Orozo–Karshi Road. In response, the minister issued a warning to contractors and officials responsible for waste management, stressing that non-performance would not be tolerated.

“If there is continued negligence or refusal to meet required standards, appropriate actions will be taken, including termination of appointments,” he warned.

On project timelines, Wike assured residents that the benefits of the ongoing road projects would become evident within the year.

The inspection tour followed recent engagements between the FCT Administration and labour unions, including the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress, which led to the suspension of the indefinite strike by FCTA workers.
