AIYEDATIWA TARGETS ONE MILLION VOTES FOR TINUBU, RALLIES APC STRUCTURES AHEAD OF 2027 POLLS
Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has called on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to intensify grassroots mobilisation, setting a target of one million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
The governor made the call on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Akure. The meeting brought together party leaders, pre-delegates, and other key stakeholders to discuss preparations for upcoming party congresses and strategies to strengthen unity within the APC.
Aiyedatiwa disclosed that the party’s zonal congress is scheduled for March 25, while the national convention is expected to hold between March 28 and 29. He noted that the party leadership would coordinate necessary arrangements to ensure smooth participation.
He explained that the APC constitution allows for either direct primaries or consensus in conducting congresses, adding that consultations with national stakeholders had already led to the preparation of a unity list.
The governor urged members to align with decisions taken by party leaders, stressing the importance of maintaining consistency with methods adopted during previous ward, local government, and state congresses.
Describing his administration as a product of collective efforts by party members, Aiyedatiwa expressed appreciation for their continued support and encouraged them to remain committed.
“This is your government. You voted and mobilised others to vote. You should not abandon it. Stand by it and support it,” he said.
Focusing on the 2027 elections, the governor emphasised the need for the state to deliver strong electoral support for the President, noting that such a move would reflect appreciation for federal backing.
He stressed that electoral success depends largely on grassroots engagement, urging members to prioritise ward and polling unit mobilisation over online campaigns.
“Go to the ward and polling units. That is where votes are. Elections are not won on social media or through publicity,” he stated.
Aiyedatiwa also called for increased party membership registration, noting that many eligible voters were yet to be captured. He further urged members to put aside personal interests after the emergence of candidates and work collectively in the interest of the party.
He added that recent amendments to the Electoral Act have strengthened internal party processes, making primaries largely party-driven with limited external interference.
In his remarks, the Ondo State APC Chairman, Hon. Babatunde Kolawole, commended members for their loyalty and support, assuring that the leadership would continue efforts to unify the party.
Kolawole emphasised that repositioning the APC requires collective responsibility, noting that there are no permanent winners or losers within the party. He assured that the state working committee would carry all members along while aligning with the party’s national leadership.
He also highlighted the significance of the forthcoming congresses and urged members to adhere to directives from party leaders, expressing confidence that the APC would achieve its electoral goals through unity and cooperation.
The meeting was attended by top government officials and party leaders, including the Deputy Governor, Dr. Olayide Adelami; the Deputy Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ololade Gbegudu, representing the Speaker; Chief of Staff, Prince Segun Omojuwa; members of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abiola Makinde and Hon. Jimi Odimayo; former Deputy Governor, Alhaji Abdulazeez Oluboyo, and other APC stakeholders.
