FG APPOINTS FUTA VICE CHANCELLOR TO KEY MINISTERIAL COMMITTEE ON N50BN TETFUND INTERVENTION
The Federal Government has appointed the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), Professor Adenike Oladiji, as a member of the Ministerial Monitoring, Evaluation and Implementation Committee on the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Special High Impact Intervention Project.
The committee is tasked with overseeing projects targeted at engineering and technology faculties in selected Federal Universities of Technology and conventional universities across the country.
In a letter conveying her appointment, the Federal Ministry of Education stated that her distinguished professional background and contributions to engineering, technology and education informed her selection.
“In view of your distinguished professional background, experience, and contribution to the Engineering, Technology, and Education ecosystem, I am pleased to invite you to be part of this high-level Ministerial Committee, which will be responsible for monitoring, evaluating and overseeing the implementation of this critical national intervention,” the letter read in part.
The initiative represents a strategic intervention by the Federal Government aimed at strengthening the quality of engineering and technology education in Nigeria. It places emphasis on practical, hands-on skills acquisition, industry relevance, innovation and applied research.
At the committee’s inauguration held on Monday, March 2, 2026, in Abuja, the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, outlined the mandate of members.
“Your mandate is clear: monitor project execution, ensure compliance with approved specifications and timelines, evaluate outcomes, identify challenges, and provide objective reports to guide policy decisions. You are entrusted with safeguarding public investment and ensuring value for money. Every facility delivered under the intervention must reflect quality, sustainability, and relevance to national needs,” the minister stated.
He further described the high-impact intervention project as a strategic initiative designed to upgrade laboratories, workshops and research facilities, positioning institutions as hubs of innovation and practical problem-solving.
According to him, funding alone does not guarantee results, stressing that effective implementation, strict adherence to standards, transparency and accountability are essential to achieving the desired outcomes.
FUTA is among the beneficiary institutions of the N50 billion Federal Government intervention aimed at upgrading existing facilities or constructing new engineering workshops where necessary. The intervention aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which prioritises skills development and economic diversification.
