GUNMEN ABDUCT ONDO LCDA SECRETARY NEAR AKURE AIRPORT, COMMUNITY GRIPPED BY FEAR
Tension has escalated in Ilu-Abo community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State after gunmen reportedly abducted the Secretary of Okeluju Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Joseph Aladesuyi.
The incident, which occurred on Monday near the Akure Airport axis, has heightened security concerns among residents, many of whom expressed fear over the rising wave of kidnappings in parts of the state.
According to community sources, Aladesuyi, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of a commercial farm in the area, was travelling to his farm when the attackers struck.
Eyewitness accounts indicated that the gunmen, believed to be about ten in number, ambushed his vehicle and opened fire before forcefully taking him away to an unknown destination.
Reports suggest that Aladesuyi was accompanied by his daughter at the time of the attack. She was reportedly left behind at the scene during the abduction.
The exact condition of the council official remains unclear as of the time of filing this report.
The development has created widespread panic in Ilu-Abo and surrounding communities. Several residents reportedly rushed to nearby schools to withdraw their children amid fears that the attackers could strike again.
Residents have called on security agencies to intensify patrols and surveillance within the Akure North axis and other vulnerable communities to prevent further incidents.
The abduction comes at a time when concerns about security challenges in parts of Ondo State continue to generate public debate, with stakeholders urging stronger collaboration between security agencies and local communities.
