NIGERIA UNIVERSITY INTRODUCES #100,000 PENALTY FOR HUGGING ON CAMPUS

Wesley University, Ondo, has introduced a new disciplinary policy imposing a ₦100,000 penalty for hugging within the school premises, according to a circular issued by the institution’s management.

The circular, dated March 2, 2026, and signed by the Acting Registrar and Secretary to Council, Dr. Adekunkle Adegga (JP), informed members of the students’ community and parents about the new directive.

According to the document, the decision was taken in line with directives from the University Senate and management, as part of measures aimed at maintaining proper conduct within the institution.

The circular stated that the penalty will take effect from the 2026/2027 academic session, adding that the fee is a fixed penalty of ₦100,000 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) for any student found violating the rule by hugging within the campus.

The management explained that payment for the penalty must be made immediately after the infraction is recorded.

Details contained in the circular indicate that the penalty is to be paid into a designated bank account provided by the university.

The account information listed in the notice includes:

Account Name: Wesley University Ondo

Account Number: 10258974797

Bank: United Bank for Africa (UBA)

The institution also stated that all payments will be properly documented and recorded for administrative review.

University authorities said the enforcement of the policy is intended to promote discipline and ensure the maintenance of proper behaviour among students on campus.

“This is for your information and strict compliance,” the circular read.

The directive was copied to key university officials including the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, Bursar, Director of Student Affairs, and Hall Wardens, indicating that enforcement will involve several administrative units within the institution.

As of the time of filing this report, the university management has not released additional clarification regarding the scope of the policy or the specific circumstances under which the rule will be applied.
