FG TO EMPOWER 20 MILLION YOUTHS AS REGISTRATION FOR ECONOMIC INTERVENTION PROGRAMME BEGINS MARCH 9

The Federal Government has announced that registration for Batch B of the Youth Economic Intervention and De-Radicalisation Programme (YEIDEP) will commence nationwide on March 9, 2026, as part of efforts to empower up to 20 million Nigerian youths.

The programme is an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Youth Development aimed at tackling youth unemployment, poverty, and social instability by providing young Nigerians with access to financial support and entrepreneurship opportunities.

Details of the registration process were disclosed in a statement issued by the Coordinator-General of YEIDEP, Kennedy Iyere, who confirmed that Nigerians aged between 18 and 50 years are eligible to participate in the scheme.

According to Iyere, the registration exercise will be conducted across the country, with the exception of Kano State, where Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf will oversee the process through a newly inaugurated Kano State YEIDEP Steering Committee.

Unlike the first phase of the programme, Batch B applicants will be required to visit designated partner banks physically to complete their registration. Applicants must open a YEIDEP bank account, which will serve as the official channel for participation and potential access to programme benefits.

Iyere explained that the earlier Batch A registration relied mainly on an online portal for data capture and banking processes. However, the government introduced the physical bank registration system in Batch B to streamline verification and improve programme transparency.

He emphasised that opening a YEIDEP bank account is the only approved method of registration, stressing that the entire process is completely free of charge.

Applicants were advised to report any bank officials or intermediaries requesting payment during the registration process. Iyere also warned that multiple or duplicate registrations will lead to automatic disqualification.

Individuals who successfully registered under Batch A and already possess confirmed YEIDEP bank accounts are not eligible to apply again in Batch B. However, those who previously registered but did not receive confirmed accounts are encouraged to reapply.

The programme, according to the government, is designed to address Nigeria’s growing challenges of youth unemployment, economic hardship, and social unrest by equipping young people with start-up capital and entrepreneurship opportunities.

Iyere noted that empowering young people economically is critical to reducing the risks of youth frustration, radicalisation, and insecurity, while also promoting productivity and national development.

He stated that the programme aims to support millions of young entrepreneurs with start-up capital, enabling them to establish businesses and create employment opportunities within their communities.

The authorised banks participating in the registration exercise include Fidelity Bank, Keystone Bank, Alpha Morgan Bank, Wema Bank, Union Bank, Guaranty Trust Bank, Zenith Bank, Access Bank, United Bank for Africa, Ecobank, and Lotus Bank.

The Federal Government said the initiative forms part of broader strategies to promote youth empowerment, stimulate entrepreneurship, and strengthen economic participation among young Nigerians.
