LOCAL GOVERNMENT FIRST LADY LEADS SANITARY PAD OUTREACH TO SUPPORT GIRL-CHILD EDUCATION IN ILE-OLUJI/OKEIGBO

In a renewed effort to promote girl-child education and menstrual hygiene awareness, the wife of the Executive Chairman of Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, Mrs. Yetunde Rachael Adeboye, on Wednesday led a team of local government officials to selected public and private secondary schools across the council area to distribute sanitary pads to female students.

The outreach programme, which covered about ten secondary schools in Ile-Oluji and Okeigbo communities, was organized to support initiatives aimed at improving the health, dignity, and educational experience of young girls.

The programme aligns with the Renewed Hope Initiative, championed by the Wife of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. The initiative focuses on improving family welfare, empowering women and girls, and promoting access to basic health and hygiene support for students.

During the visits to the schools, Mrs. Adeboye delivered the goodwill message of Nigeria’s First Lady, expressing appreciation for the initiative and highlighting its positive impact on girls across the country. She also acknowledged the support of the Wife of the Governor of Ondo State, Mrs. Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa, for her continued commitment to similar programmes within the state.

Addressing the students, Mrs. Adeboye encouraged them to remain focused on their academic pursuits while maintaining good personal hygiene. She noted that proper menstrual health management plays a significant role in boosting confidence, ensuring regular school attendance, and improving the overall well-being of female students.

She further appreciated the support of her husband, Hon. Adeboye Adebare, the Executive Chairman of Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government, who recently marked one year in office. According to her, the current administration remains committed to programmes that improve the lives of residents and promote development at the grassroots level.

Some of the schools visited during the outreach included Orere Grammar School, Ile-Oluji; Gboluji Anglican Grammar School, Ile-Oluji; Holy Spring Comprehensive High School, Ile-Oluji; New Era High School, Ile-Oluji; Baptist High School, Ile-Oluji; Okeigbo Grammar School, Okeigbo; and Progress Intellectual College, Okeigbo, among others.

Representing the Executive Chairman at the event, the Secretary to the Local Government, Otunba Samson Agboola, advised the students to remain disciplined, attentive, and committed to their studies. He emphasized that education remains one of the most reliable pathways for achieving personal success and contributing to national development.

Other dignitaries present at the event included the Leader of the Legislative House of the council, Rt. Hon. (Mrs.) Iyabo Adefulire; the Director of Social Development, Information, Education, Youths, Sports and Culture, Mrs. Ayo Atikase; a representative of the Area Education Officer; and wives of ward councillors, among others.

The sanitary pad distribution programme forms part of broader efforts by the local government administration to support educational development, improve student welfare, and create a healthier learning environment for girls within the community.
