IDANRE GETS MODERN FIRE SERVICE STATION AS REP AKINGBASO DONATES FIRE ENGINE, VOWS MORE PROJECTS
The Federal Lawmaker representing Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency, Hon. Festus Akingbaso, has commissioned a new Fire Service Station in Idanre, Ondo State, marking a significant step toward strengthening emergency response and public safety in the area.
The commissioning ceremony, held on March 16, 2026, attracted traditional rulers, political leaders, security agencies, and officials of the Federal Fire Service.
As part of the project, a fire engine identified as FFS-32 was officially handed over to support operations at the newly established station.
Speaking at the event, Akingbaso, who serves as the Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Aviation, said the initiative was driven by past fire incidents in the community, particularly the 2023 inferno that led to significant property losses.
He explained that the incident underscored the urgent need for a functional fire service station in Idanre, prompting efforts to secure federal approval for the project.
According to him, the approval process experienced delays before it was eventually granted with the support of the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and the Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service.
Akingbaso expressed appreciation to the ministry and the fire service leadership for facilitating the project, noting that the station would enhance rapid emergency response, safeguard lives and property, and improve investor confidence in the community.
He reaffirmed his commitment to delivering more developmental projects across the constituency, stating that the fire station fulfilled one of his campaign promises. He also disclosed that a similar facility has been approved for Ifedore, alongside ongoing efforts to complete a civic centre project.
In his remarks, the State Controller of the Federal Fire Service, Zone K, ACF Moses Oyedepo, described the project as aligned with the agency’s mandate to protect lives and property.
He commended the collaboration between the Federal Fire Service and the Idanre community, attributing the success of the project to sustained advocacy and leadership.
Oyedepo urged residents to take ownership of the facility by supporting its maintenance and promoting fire safety awareness at the community level.
Community leaders at the event described the project as a major milestone in the town’s history, noting its potential to reduce fire-related risks and enhance overall safety.
Dignitaries present included the Regent of Idanre, High Chief Akindolire; Chief Kola Ademujimi; Barrister Smart Omotadowa; HRM Oba Gilbert Olakunle Ogunlowo, Aduranjan I, Awosunye of Atosin Land; Deputy Chairman of Idanre Local Government, Hon.
