ONDO GOVERNMENT PARTNERS NEMA TO SUPPORT FIRE DISASTER VICTIMS WITH RELIEF MATERIALS

Ondo State Government has partnered with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to distribute relief materials to victims affected by recent fire disasters in Owo and Ose Local Government Areas of the state.

The distribution exercise, coordinated by the Ondo State Emergency Management Agency (ODSEMA), took place on Friday, March 13, 2026, at the agency’s store in Akure. The intervention forms part of the state government’s efforts to provide humanitarian support and assist affected residents in recovering from the incidents.

Speaking during the exercise, the Administrative Secretary in the Office of the Deputy Governor, Mr. Frederick Orunko, said the initiative was carried out in accordance with the directive of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, whose administration continues to prioritize the welfare and safety of citizens across the state.

Orunko explained that the government remains proactive in responding to emergencies and disasters, noting that timely interventions are critical in reducing the hardship faced by victims.

He added that the Ondo State Emergency Management Agency, chaired by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Olayide Adelami, mni, is committed to effectively carrying out its mandate of disaster management and humanitarian response.

According to him, officials of the agency promptly visit locations affected by disasters to conduct detailed assessments whenever incidents occur. The findings from these assessments, he said, guide the distribution of relief materials to ensure that assistance reaches the victims who need it most.

Orunko further stated that such assessments are conducted throughout the year, stressing that the state government does not operate on a fixed timeline for providing support but remains ready to respond whenever emergencies arise.

Also speaking, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Emergency Response, Prince Wellington Oriade Adebawo, said the distribution reflects Governor Aiyedatiwa’s directive that victims of disasters should receive immediate support to cushion the effects of such incidents.

He commended the Deputy Governor, Dr. Adelami, for his commitment and leadership in ensuring that the activities of the emergency management agency are effectively coordinated and that relief materials are delivered promptly to affected residents.

Adebawo also assured that the distribution exercise would continue to include victims from other local government areas who may not have been captured in the current phase, emphasizing the government’s commitment to supporting all affected communities.

Officials present at the programme included the Director of Finance and Administration of ODSEMA, Mr. Aina Richard; the agency’s Desk Officer, Mr. Kehinde Ayesa; and representatives of the National Emergency Management Agency from the Ado-Ekiti Operations Office, among other stakeholders.

Relief items distributed to the victims included bags of rice, maize, cartons of spaghetti, seasoning cubes, vegetable oil, and tomato paste. Other materials provided were bags of iodized salt, cement, packets of zinc nails, bags of three-inch nails, and bundles of roofing sheets to support both immediate needs and rebuilding efforts for those affected by the fire incidents.
