Ondo Police Arrest Alleged Eiye Cult Leader “Bella” Over Owo Murder Case
The Ondo State Police Command has announced the arrest of a suspected cult leader allegedly linked to a murder case and other cult-related activities in the state.
The suspect, identified as Akinwale Tomiwa, popularly known as “Bella,” was arrested by operatives of the Special Anti-Cultism Squad in Akure following intelligence-led operations.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the arrest forms part of the command’s intensified efforts under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal to combat cult-related violence across the state.
Police authorities alleged that the suspect is a leader of the Eiye Confraternity reportedly operating around Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, and surrounding communities.
The police said the arrest followed credible intelligence indicating that the suspect had been sighted around NEPA Junction in Akure. Acting on the information, officers reportedly moved to the location and apprehended him without incident.
Preliminary investigations by the police have linked the suspect to the killing of one Ojo Peter, which occurred on December 12, 2025, in Owo. The incident had raised concerns within the community and was believed to be connected to cult rivalry.
Further intelligence also suggested that the suspect was recently featured on a cult-related social media platform known as Naija Confra, where he was allegedly involved in an attack on suspected members of the Aiye Confraternity along Fasawe Street in Owo. Authorities said the attack was believed to be part of an ongoing supremacy battle between rival cult groups in the area.
Police also disclosed that during the arrest, officers recovered items suspected to be criminal charms, which were allegedly used for protection and intimidation during cult activities.
The suspect has since been arraigned in court on a six-count charge bordering on murder and other offences, while investigations continue.
The police added that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other suspected members of the syndicate linked to the suspect.
Reiterating its stance against cultism and violent crimes, the Ondo State Police Command assured residents that it would continue intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks threatening peace and security across the state.
Residents were also urged to remain vigilant and assist security agencies by providing credible and timely information that could aid the fight against cultism and other criminal activities.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property and bringing perpetrators of crime to justice.
