ONDO POLICE ARREST TWO SUSPECTED KIDNAP LOGISTICS SUPPLIERS, BEGIN MANHUNT FOR OTHER GANG MEMBERS

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspected collaborators accused of providing logistics support to kidnappers operating in Ilu-Abo community and nearby areas of the state.

The arrest was announced in a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal.

According to the statement, the suspects, identified as Alhassan Muhammad, 20, and Faruq Muhammad Sanni, 25, both residents of Sabon-Sango in Akure, were apprehended on March 15, 2026, following credible intelligence from a concerned resident of Ilu-Abo community.

Police said the intelligence revealed that one of the suspects, who operates as a commercial motorcyclist, had allegedly been assisting kidnappers by purchasing and delivering food items and other supplies to their hideouts within the forested areas around the community.

Acting on the tip-off, operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad launched a targeted operation which led to the arrest of the two suspects. Other members of the suspected kidnapping syndicate reportedly fled the area upon sighting the approaching police operatives.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects allegedly played support roles in sustaining the activities of the kidnapping gang operating around Ilu-Abo and neighbouring communities.

Police authorities confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody and have provided statements that are assisting ongoing investigations aimed at tracking down other fleeing members of the criminal network.

“The Command has intensified efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects and dismantle the entire kidnapping network responsible for criminal activities in the area,” the statement said.

The police added that the suspects will be charged to court upon the completion of investigations.

Police Commend Community Support

The Ondo State Police Command commended members of the Ilu-Abo community for their vigilance and cooperation, noting that the timely information provided by residents played a significant role in the success of the operation.

The Commissioner of Police also expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for his support and strategic guidance to the Command.

According to the statement, the IGP’s experience and continued advice have contributed to recent operational successes recorded by the Command in tackling criminal activities in the state.

Call for More Public Cooperation

The Police Command reiterated that community participation remains essential in the fight against crime, urging residents to continue providing credible and actionable information to law enforcement agencies.

Authorities assured members of the public that all information shared with the police would be treated with strict confidentiality.

The Command further reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property while sustaining operations aimed at eliminating kidnapping and other forms of criminal activity across Ondo State.
