TINUBU APPROVES POSTING OF 65 AMBASSADORS TO FOREIGN MISSIONS, UN
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the official postings of 65 ambassadors-designate to Nigeria’s diplomatic missions across the world and the United Nations.
The list comprises 31 non-career ambassadors and 34 career diplomats whose nominations were earlier confirmed by the Senate in December 2025.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who noted that the postings are part of the administration’s efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic representation and international engagement.
According to the statement, several prominent Nigerians were assigned to key diplomatic missions. Among the non-career ambassadors, former Akwa Ibom senator Grace Bent will serve in Lomé, Togo, while former presidential aide Senator Ita Enang has been posted to South Africa. Former Abia State Governor Victor Ikpeazu is designated for Spain, while public affairs commentator Reno Omokri will represent Nigeria in Mexico.
Former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Ayodele Oke, has been posted to France, while former aviation minister Femi Fani-Kayode will serve in Germany. Former Minister of Health Prof. Isaac Adewole has been assigned to Canada, and former Lagos State Deputy Governor Olufemi Pedro will head Nigeria’s mission in Australia.
Also on the list is former Chief of Defence Staff Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau (retd.), who will serve as Nigeria’s ambassador to China, while former National Security Adviser Lateef Kayode Are has been posted to the United States. Businessman and senator Jimoh Ibrahim has been designated as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
Other non-career ambassadors include Mahmud Yakubu (Qatar), Angela Adebayo (Portugal), Yimika Olumilua (Japan), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Greece), Chioma Ohakim (Poland), Fatima Ajimobi (Austria), Lola Akande (Sweden), Yakubu Gambo (Saudi Arabia), and Nora Ladi Daduut (South Korea).
In the career ambassadorial category, several seasoned diplomats have also been deployed to strategic missions. These include Ambassador Mohammed Mahmoud Lele to Algeria, Ahmed Mohammed Monguno to Egypt, Jane Adams Michael to Jamaica, Clark-Omeru Alexandra to Zambia, and Ruben Abimbola Samuel to Italy.
Others include Muhammad Saidu Dahiru to India, Abdussalam Habu Zayyad to Senegal, Shehu Ilu Barde to Ghana, Aminu Nasir to Ethiopia, Haidara Mohammed Idris to The Hague in the Netherlands, and Ayeni Adebayo Emmanuel to Belgium.
The Presidency disclosed that the United Kingdom has already granted agrément for Nigeria’s High Commissioner-designate, Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu, while France has also approved agrément for Ambassador Ayo Oke.
According to the statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has transmitted the nominations of the remaining envoys to the respective host countries and is awaiting their diplomatic approvals in line with international practice.
President Tinubu has also directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately commence the induction programme for the ambassadors-designate and high commissioners ahead of their deployment to their various diplomatic missions.
The postings are expected to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic presence globally and enhance bilateral and multilateral engagements with partner nations.
