LOCAL GOVERNMENT MARKS ONE YEAR IN OFFICE AS ADEBARE LAUNCHES “OUNJE IRORUN” FOOD SUPPORT PROGRAMME FOR RESIDENTS

The Executive Chairman of Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government in Ondo State, Hon. Adeboye Adebare, has officially launched the “Ounje Irorun” food support initiative, distributing food items to more than 1,000 residents across the local government area.

The programme was formally flagged off on Monday, March 16, 2026, at the NULGE Hall, Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government Secretariat, as part of activities marking the first anniversary of the current administration.

According to the local government chairman, the initiative was approved unanimously by the leadership of the council, comprising both the Executive and Legislative arms, as part of efforts to support residents and strengthen community welfare.

Speaking during the event, Hon. Adebare explained that the programme was designed to provide food assistance to residents and ease economic pressures faced by many households.

He noted that the initiative also represents the administration’s way of giving back to the people after executing several developmental projects across the local government since assuming office.

The chairman expressed appreciation to residents and stakeholders who attended the event and encouraged beneficiaries to receive the support in good faith. He emphasized that the programme was made possible through the collective sacrifice and commitment of the council’s leadership, including members of the executive council and ward councillors.

According to him, the funds used for the programme were deliberately allocated to support residents rather than being used for other purposes, reflecting the administration’s commitment to community development and welfare.

Hon. Adebare further stressed that the initiative was designed to serve all residents without discrimination, regardless of religion, ethnicity, beliefs, or political affiliation.

Beneficiaries were drawn from various groups within the local government, including members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), market leaders such as Iyalojas, officials of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), security agencies, Muslim and Christian groups, community leaders, political stakeholders, and other residents.

The chairman also revealed that although the programme is being introduced for the first time under his administration, the council has resolved to make it a bi-monthly intervention aimed at continuously supporting residents.

The distribution exercise was carried out in two phases. More than 600 beneficiaries received food items at the NULGE Hall in Ile-Oluji, while an additional 400 residents received their allocations in Okeigbo.

Dignitaries present at the event included the Vice Chairman of the Local Government, Hon. Benjamin Akinbobola; the Leader of the Local Government Legislative Council, Rt. Hon. (Mrs.) Adefulire Ayantunde Iyabo; ward councillors; supervisors; special advisers; religious leaders; and other key stakeholders.

Beneficiaries and community leaders at the event described the initiative as a timely intervention, noting that it would help ease the economic burden on residents amid rising living costs.
