APC NATIONAL WORKING COMMITTEE WITHHOLDS RATIFICATION OF ONDO AND BENUE CONGRESSES

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declined to ratify the recently conducted party congresses in Ondo and Benue states, a development that has further heightened political discussions within the ruling party.

The congresses, which were held as part of the party’s internal process to elect ward executives and strengthen grassroots structures ahead of future political activities, have reportedly come under review by the national leadership of the party.

Sources within the party indicated that the decision not to ratify the congresses followed concerns raised by stakeholders over the conduct and outcome of the exercises in both states. The National Working Committee is said to be examining reports submitted by the congress committees and other party officials before taking a final position.

In Ondo State, the congress process has been surrounded by controversy following tensions among party members and leaders. The situation attracted public attention after a violent disruption occurred at the APC State Secretariat in Akure during a stakeholders’ meeting ahead of the congress. The incident involved suspected political thugs and led to injuries among some party officials.

The development also triggered an investigation by the Nigeria Police Force, which recently confirmed the arrest of a suspect identified as “Eniba” in connection with the attack on Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Commissioner, Otito Atikase, who was among those affected during the incident.

Similarly, in Benue State, party stakeholders reportedly raised complaints regarding the conduct of the congresses, prompting the APC leadership to review the exercise before granting official approval.

Although the party has not released a detailed public statement outlining the specific reasons for withholding ratification, party insiders suggest that the National Working Committee is committed to ensuring that all internal processes are conducted in line with the party’s constitution and guidelines.

Political observers note that the decision to delay ratification may allow the party leadership to address grievances raised by members and prevent further internal disputes.

The APC leadership is expected to communicate its final decision on the matter after completing its review of reports and consultations with relevant stakeholders.
