ONDO POLICE ESTABLISH TACTICAL BASE IN ILU-ABO TO TACKLE RISING KIDNAPPING THREATS

The Ondo State Police Command has intensified its security operations across the state with the establishment of a new tactical team base in Ilu-Abo community as part of renewed efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes.

The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Adebowale Lawal, announced the development on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, during a visit to Ilu-Abo community where he addressed residents and protesters over growing security concerns in the area.

During the visit, the police chief engaged community leaders and other stakeholders while assessing the security situation firsthand. He assured residents that the command is fully aware of the challenges faced by the community and has already begun implementing measures to restore safety and confidence.

According to the police, the decision to establish the tactical base follows recent security incidents reported around the Ilu-Abo, Ayede, and Ogbese axis as well as other adjoining communities.

The newly deployed team comprises specially trained operatives drawn from the command’s elite tactical units, including anti-kidnapping operatives and other specialized formations. The officers will operate around the clock to strengthen security in the affected areas.

Police authorities stated that the tactical unit will conduct continuous patrols, surveillance operations, intelligence gathering, and coordinated security operations aimed at preventing criminal activities and responding swiftly to threats.

As part of the intensified operations, the command has also expanded joint security efforts involving multiple agencies. These operations include stop-and-search exercises, intelligence-driven raids on suspected criminal hideouts, and forest combing operations targeting areas believed to be used by kidnapping networks.

Security officials say the operations are designed to dismantle criminal syndicates and prevent criminals from using forested and boundary communities as safe havens.

The Commissioner of Police has further directed Divisional Police Officers within the affected axis and neighboring divisions to collaborate closely with the newly deployed tactical team. Community security groups such as vigilantes and hunters have also been encouraged to support the initiative through effective intelligence sharing.

Residents were urged to remain calm and law-abiding while cooperating with security agencies by providing credible information that could aid ongoing operations. Police authorities emphasized that all information provided by members of the public would be treated with strict confidentiality.

The command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state, noting that kidnapping and other violent crimes will not be tolerated in any part of Ondo State.

Authorities also advised residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or activities within their communities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency channels.

Police officials say the latest measures form part of broader proactive strategies aimed at ensuring a safer environment for residents across the state.
