POLICE DISMANTLE CAR THEFT SYNDICATE, RECOVER STOLEN TOYOTA CAMRY IN AKURE
The Ondo State Police Command has announced a major breakthrough in its fight against vehicle theft, following the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of a stolen Toyota Camry in Akure, the state capital.
In a statement issued on March 24, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the operation was part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to safeguard lives and property across the state.
According to the statement, the case was reported on February 27, 2026, by a resident, Adeyemi Robert, who alleged that his Toyota Camry saloon car with registration number AH173WWD, described as a custom colour, was stolen on February 14, 2026. The vehicle had been parked along Sijuade Street, Akure, during a social event.
Police detectives immediately launched an investigation, deploying intelligence-led strategies to track the stolen vehicle and identify those involved.
The investigation led to the arrest of a 40-year-old suspect, Awolo Akingbade, who was found in possession of the stolen car. Further inquiries revealed that the vehicle had allegedly been sold to him by another suspect, Adeyemi David, who was subsequently apprehended by operatives.
Preliminary findings indicate that the principal suspect allegedly stole the vehicle and sold it to the buyer. The recovered Toyota Camry has been secured as exhibit, while both suspects reportedly provided useful information to aid ongoing investigations.
The police confirmed that the suspects have been charged to court following the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Adebowale Lawal, commended the officers involved for their professionalism and swift response, noting that their efforts were instrumental in the successful recovery of the vehicle.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to combating crime, warning individuals engaged in criminal activities to desist or face the full weight of the law. The Commissioner also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to support law enforcement agencies with timely and credible information.
