ONDO GOVERNMENT VISITS BEREAVED FAMILY, OFFERS CASH AND RELIEF SUPPORT AFTER TRAGIC ODE-AYE FIRE

The Ondo State Government has paid a condolence visit to the family of Mr. and Mrs. Ohwo Peter following a tragic fire incident that claimed the lives of their two young daughters in Ode-Aye, Okitipupa Local Government Area.

The visit, which took place on Monday, March 23, 2026, highlights the administration’s response to emergencies and its commitment to supporting residents during periods of hardship.

A state delegation led by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Emergency Response, Hon. Wellington Oriade Adebawo, alongside officials of the Ondo State Emergency Management Agency (ODSEMA), visited the family at their residence on Olaribigbe Street, Zion Area. The delegation conveyed the condolences of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa and assured the family of the government’s support.

The officials expressed sympathy over the loss of six-year-old Queen Ohwo and four-year-old Everlyne Ohwo, who died in the March 18 fire outbreak. According to preliminary findings by authorities, the incident may have been caused by unattended cooking, drawing attention to the importance of fire safety practices in homes.

As part of immediate intervention efforts, the state government provided relief materials, including food items such as rice, beans, and cooking oil, as well as mattresses. Financial assistance was also presented to the family to help address urgent needs resulting from the incident.

Authorities confirmed that investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing. The Ondo State Police Command in Ode-Aye, in collaboration with the State Fire Service, is working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, safety officials have reiterated the need for precautionary measures, including avoiding unattended cooking, supervising children closely, storing flammable materials properly, and equipping homes with basic firefighting tools.

Community members and sympathizers have continued to show support for the affected family. The government’s intervention forms part of broader efforts to provide timely humanitarian assistance while promoting safety awareness to prevent similar occurrences.
