SECURITY FORCES ARREST 99 SUSPECTS IN MAJOR CRIME CRACKDOWN ACROSS ONDO STATE

Security agencies in Ondo State have arrested 99 suspects following a coordinated security raid targeting criminal hideouts and flashpoints across the state.

The operation, carried out on Sunday, involved a joint task force comprising the Ondo State Police Command, the Nigerian Army’s 32 Brigade Artillery, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps.

The spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the development in a statement issued in Akure on Monday.

According to Jimoh, the intelligence-led operation focused on areas identified by security agencies as hubs for criminal activities.

He explained that the raid targeted criminal hideouts, black spots, and other locations known for illegal activities, leading to the arrest of individuals suspected of involvement in crimes such as armed robbery, burglary, theft, cultism, and other related offences.

During the operation, security operatives also recovered items believed to have been used for criminal activities, including suspected stolen properties and other exhibits considered incriminating.

Jimoh stated that the suspects are currently undergoing screening and profiling, adding that those found culpable will be charged to court in accordance with the law.

The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Adebowale Lawal, commended the professionalism and cooperation demonstrated by the participating security agencies. He emphasized that sustained collaboration among security institutions remains critical in tackling crime and ensuring public safety across the state.

Lawal reiterated the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and coordinated security operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and maintaining law and order.

He also issued a strong warning to individuals involved in criminal activities, stressing that Ondo State will not serve as a safe haven for criminals.

The police commissioner further assured residents that security agencies will continue to intensify efforts to identify, track, and prosecute offenders, regardless of where they attempt to hide.

He called on members of the public to support law enforcement agencies by providing timely, credible, and actionable information, noting that community cooperation plays a vital role in maintaining peace and security.

Meanwhile, the police command recently announced the arrest of four suspected kidnappers linked to a violent attack along Liberty Avenue in Ilu-Abo.

The suspects were reportedly connected to a January 26 attack that led to the death of a resident, John Ofuduwa, and the abduction of Oladeinde Tomilola, who was later released.

Authorities have assured residents that ongoing security operations will continue as part of broader efforts to curb criminal activities across Ondo State.
