TINUBU CALLS FOR SUSTAINED RAMADAN VALUES TO PROMOTE PEACE AND NATIONAL UNITY

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Nigerians to uphold the virtues of patience, tolerance, and compassion demonstrated during Ramadan and Lent, emphasizing their importance for national peace and development.

The President made the call on Friday after observing Eid-el-Fitr prayers at Dodan Barracks in Lagos. He noted that the lessons learned during the holy period should go beyond religious observances and serve as a foundation for nation-building.

According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu stressed that the responsibility for maintaining peace and security in the country rests on all citizens.

He encouraged Nigerians to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, adding that collective efforts are essential to ensuring stability across the nation.

“We must continue the good values we have learned, even after Ramadan. The teachings of peace, charity, and love for humanity should guide our daily lives. We must be our brother’s keeper and support the vulnerable in society,” the President stated.

Tinubu also highlighted the importance of unity in diversity, noting that while religious practices may differ, shared moral values bind citizens together. He called for mutual respect and harmonious coexistence among people of different faiths.

Reflecting briefly on his recent visit to the United Kingdom alongside the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the President described the engagement as a representation of Nigeria’s diversity and unity on the global stage.

In his remarks, Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, reiterated the state government’s commitment to peace and the well-being of residents, while appreciating the President’s continued support.

Delivering the Eid sermon, the Grand Chief Imam of Lagos State, Sheikh Sulaiman Oluwatoyin Abou-Nolla, urged Muslim faithful to sustain the values of piety, discipline, and peace beyond Ramadan. He also called for calmness and wisdom amid global uncertainties.

The Eid prayers were attended by top government officials and dignitaries, including the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; and former Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola.

The President’s message reinforces the need for unity, shared responsibility, and continued adherence to moral values as key drivers of national stability and progress.
