YOUTH ASSEMBLY LAUNCHES ‘PAD THE GIRL CHILD’ INITIATIVE TO SUPPORT STUDENTS IN ONDO
The Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN), Ondo State Chapter, has announced the launch of its “Pad the Girl Child” outreach programme, a humanitarian initiative focused on promoting menstrual hygiene and supporting young girls in secondary schools.
The programme, led by the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Isaiah Oyawale, is designed to provide sanitary pads to female students while also raising awareness about proper menstrual hygiene practices.
According to the organisers, the initiative is sponsored by Prince Bright Adelegan, whose contributions toward youth development and community welfare have supported several interventions across the state.
As part of the outreach, sanitary pads will be distributed on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, to students in selected secondary schools in Akure, including Fiwaye Girls’ Grammar School, Saint Louis Grammar School, and CAC Grammar School.
The organisers explained that the initiative aims to address challenges faced by many young girls who lack access to basic sanitary materials, a situation that often affects school attendance and overall wellbeing. By providing essential supplies, the programme seeks to enable students to attend school with improved confidence, comfort, and dignity.
In addition to the distribution exercise, the outreach will feature educational sessions on menstrual hygiene, personal care, and self-confidence. These sessions are intended to equip students with accurate information and encourage healthy practices.
The Youth Assembly of Nigeria, Ondo State Chapter, noted that the programme reflects its broader commitment to promoting education, improving youth welfare, and supporting community-based initiatives across the state.
