AKINDOLIRE TO HEAD AIYEDATIWA’S COMMITTEE ON RUGIPO MINIMUM WAGE REVIEW, AS GOVERNOR CLEARS SALARY ARREARS
The Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the constitution of a committee to review the implementation of the new minimum wage at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO), as part of efforts to address ongoing salary concerns within the institution.
The decision followed a series of engagements between the state government, the institution’s management, and labour unions over the harmonization of salary structures and payment schedules for staff.
According to official information made available to Opima RealNews, the committee is chaired by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Olaolu Akindolire. Other members include Dr. Wunmi Ilawole, Mr. Olaleye Phillips, Mr. Asonja Oluwole Festus, and Mr. Abiodun Ogunduboye.
The committee has been mandated to work closely with the polytechnic’s management, labour unions, and relevant government agencies to audit payroll records, identify discrepancies in wage implementation, and recommend a sustainable and transparent payment structure.
In a related development, Governor Aiyedatiwa has approved the payment of three months’ outstanding salary arrears owed to staff of the institution. The move is expected to ease financial pressure on workers and improve industrial relations within the polytechnic.
Commenting on the development, the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, stated that addressing the salary backlog was critical to restoring stability and strengthening confidence among both academic and non-academic staff.
Meanwhile, the governor has also confirmed the substantive appointment of Dr. Simeon Olorunwa Adegun as Rector of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic. Dr. Adegun had been serving in an acting capacity since October 2024.
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to workers’ welfare and the effective functioning of state-owned tertiary institutions, emphasizing ongoing efforts to ensure financial sustainability and institutional stability.
