APC UNITY DRIVE GAINS MOMENTUM AS AIYEDATIWA PUSHES CONSENSUS AHEAD OF ONDO PRIMARIES
Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has intensified efforts to foster unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC), urging party stakeholders and aspirants to embrace consensus as preparations begin for future electoral primaries.
Speaking on Wednesday at the APC Northern Senatorial District stakeholders’ meeting in Owo, the governor emphasized that while political ambition is legitimate, it should not undermine the collective interest and stability of the party.
He noted that multiple aspirants often compete for a single position, stressing the need for maturity and cooperation in navigating the selection process.
“It is good to aspire for a position, but you are not the only one interested. That office is meant for one person at a time,” Aiyedatiwa stated.
The governor explained that the APC provides for both consensus arrangements and direct primaries, adding that consensus would be prioritized where mutual agreement can be reached among stakeholders.
“Consensus is always preferred, but where it cannot be achieved, the party will adopt direct primaries. We will continue to engage leaders and aspirants to see the benefits of consensus,” he said.
He warned that internal divisions during primaries could weaken the party’s chances in general elections, urging members to remain patient and committed to party unity.
“That is the only way we can maintain peace and go into elections as one. It also improves our chances of winning,” he added.
Governor Aiyedatiwa reassured aspirants that their participation has been duly recognized, noting that party records at the local government level capture all interested individuals.
“You have made yourselves visible, and your contributions are noted. The party will not overlook your efforts,” he said, adding that loyalty and consistency within the party structure would ultimately be rewarded.
Addressing security concerns, the governor stated that his administration has strengthened intelligence-driven operations, leading to improved responses to crime, particularly in areas previously affected by kidnapping. He expressed confidence that the state remains secure against emerging threats.
Aiyedatiwa explained that the stakeholders’ meeting forms part of a broader quarterly consultation framework aimed at improving governance feedback and encouraging grassroots participation. He added that rotating such meetings across senatorial districts is intended to promote inclusiveness.
He also highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects, including road rehabilitation efforts, as part of his administration’s development agenda.
In his remarks, the APC State Chairman, Hon. Babatunde Kolawole, reiterated the importance of discipline and unity within the party. He urged members to align with party decisions, noting that only one candidate would emerge per elective position.
Similarly, the APC Vice Chairman for the Northern Senatorial District, Olukayode Adejoro, commended the governor’s leadership and cited ongoing development projects in the region, including road works and improvements in security supported by the Amotekun Corps.
Other stakeholders, including Mrs. Yinka Alabi, Kolade Folawummi, and Senator Remi Okunrinboye, also expressed support for the governor’s engagement efforts and acknowledged developmental strides across the state.
The meeting reflects ongoing internal consultations within the APC as the party prepares for upcoming electoral processes in Ondo State.
