CONTENT CREATOR ALLEGES DOLLAR BRIBE ATTEMPT TO ALTER POLITICAL SKITS
Popular Nigerian comedian and digital content creator, Kevin Chinedu, widely known by his stage persona “Governor Amuneke,” has disclosed that he was offered a financial inducement in foreign currency by individuals linked to a political party to alter the tone of his satirical skits.
Chinedu made the revelation during an appearance on a televised programme, where he discussed the challenges faced by content creators who use humor to critique governance and public office holders.
According to him, the offer was presented during a period of personal financial pressure, shortly after his wife underwent a Caesarean section. He explained that the individuals attempted to persuade him with promises of significant financial reward in dollars, suggesting that he was under-earning compared to others in the industry.
“They told me they would change my life and mentioned that others were already benefiting,” he said.
The comedian, however, declined to disclose the identity of the political party involved, referring to it only in connection with his fictional character and cautioning against speculation.
Despite the financial appeal and personal circumstances at the time, Chinedu stated that he rejected the proposal, emphasizing his commitment to integrity and independence in his creative work.
“I have always maintained my principles. I do not engage in anything that compromises my values or influences my work because of money,” he said.
He further noted that members of his close circle share similar values and had also resisted similar approaches, reinforcing their collective stance on ethical content creation.
The disclosure highlights ongoing concerns about attempts to influence public narratives through digital media, particularly as social media continues to play a significant role in shaping public opinion and political discourse.
