NEWS UPDATE: ILE-OLUJI KINGDOM REAFFIRMS APPROVED COMMUNITY FLAG, DECLARES DESIGN FINAL

ILE-OLUJI KINGDOM REAFFIRMS APPROVED COMMUNITY FLAG, DECLARES DESIGN FINAL

The Ile-Oluji Kingdom has officially reaffirmed its approved community flag, reinforcing its commitment to preserving a unified cultural identity and putting to rest discussions surrounding alternative proposals.

This clarification was provided directly to Opima RealNews correspondents by the Lisa of Ile-Oluji Kingdom, High Chief Johnson Akin Fagbamiye.

According to the High Chief, the idea of creating a distinct community flag, alongside institutional incentives for the town, was first conceived during the reign of the late monarch, His Royal Majesty, Oba Engr. Stephen Suulade Adedugbe, Jilubokun II.

He explained that the initiative was intended to produce a flag whose colours and design elements reflect the culture, values, and identity of the Ile-Oluji people. However, the process was temporarily suspended following the monarch’s passing.

Speaking further, High Chief Fagbamiye noted that the proposal was later revived after the ascension of the current monarch, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Dr. Olufaderin Adetimehin, Jimoko II, who supported the realization of the vision.

The council subsequently opened the process to the public, inviting submissions from interested individuals across the community.

After a thorough review of multiple entries, the design submitted by Mr. Sam Ade Akinfiresoye was unanimously selected, having stood out for its symbolic interpretation, thoughtful colour combination, and strong representation of the community’s heritage.

Following its approval, three official flags were produced and installed at key locations within the town, including the royal palace and the town hall, where it is displayed alongside Nigeria’s national flag.

High Chief Fagbamiye further disclosed that in early 2025, an alternative design was presented by another indigene. However, the proposal was declined on the grounds that an official flag had already been adopted and widely accepted.

He added that concerns were also raised regarding the inclusion of red in the new design, noting that the colour is often associated with certain political and international affiliations, making it unsuitable for the intended cultural representation of the community.

Reaffirming the council’s position, the High Chief stated that the leadership reconvened and endorsed the original design by Mr. Akinfiresoye, incorporating only minor modifications and stakeholder inputs.

The updated version was subsequently produced in large quantities, including branded souvenirs, and officially launched during the 2025 Lijebu Festival.

He emphasized that the council remains fully committed to the approved design and has resolved that no alternative flag proposals will be considered going forward, establishing it as the official and enduring symbol of Ile-Oluji Kingdom.
