APC PICKS SOLOMON ADEOLA AS CONSENSUS CANDIDATE FOR OGUN 2027 GOVERNORSHIP RACE

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has officially announced Senator Solomon Adeola as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate for the state’s 2027 governorship election.

The announcement was made on Monday, April 13, 2026, during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital. The decision is seen as a significant step in the party’s early preparations for the upcoming electoral cycle.

Senator Adeola, widely known as “Yayi,” currently represents Ogun West Senatorial District in the National Assembly. He is a seasoned politician with years of legislative experience at both state and federal levels.

Party insiders say the consensus arrangement reflects internal consultations and efforts to maintain unity within the APC in Ogun State ahead of the 2027 elections. While details of the selection process were not fully disclosed at the meeting, the endorsement signals strong backing from key stakeholders within the party structure.

The move positions Adeola as the leading contender to succeed Governor Abiodun, whose tenure is expected to end in 2027, subject to constitutional limits.

Political observers note that early consensus decisions often aim to reduce intra-party conflicts and strengthen campaign coordination well before the official election timetable is released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official reaction from opposition parties regarding the development.
