 JAMB CANDIDATES AMONG 14 ABDUCTED IN BENUE HIGHWAY ATTACK


A group of passengers, including candidates participating in the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), have been abducted by suspected gunmen along the Makurdi–Otukpo road in Benue State.

The incident occurred on Wednesday evening when a commercial bus operated by Benue Links was reportedly ambushed while en route from Makurdi to Otukpo. According to sources, the vehicle was conveying about 18 passengers at the time of the attack, with several believed to be young students travelling to sit for their examinations.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that the attack happened around 8:00 p.m. near Otukpo, where the assailants intercepted the vehicle and forced a number of passengers into nearby bushes.

Security authorities have confirmed that at least 14 individuals were abducted during the incident. Law enforcement agencies have since launched operations aimed at locating the victims and apprehending those responsible.

The development has heightened concerns over safety along the Makurdi–Otukpo corridor, a route that has recorded repeated security incidents in recent times.

As of the time of filing this report, officials have not released the identities of the abducted passengers, while efforts to secure their safe return remain ongoing.
