ONDO POLICE ARREST SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER, RESCUE VICTIM IN ISUA AKOKO
The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspected kidnapper and the successful rescue of a victim in Isua Akoko, Akoko South-East Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the operation was carried out under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal.
According to the statement, the case was reported on April 10, 2026, when a resident identified as Ahmadu alerted the Isua Police Division that two young men who had gone to Ipesi Akoko for cattle rearing failed to return home, raising concern over the whereabouts of one of them.
Following the report, the police launched an intelligence-driven operation which led to the rescue of the kidnapped victim.
The victim, while recounting his ordeal, stated that he was abducted at night by three suspected kidnappers. He revealed that during an attempt to resist the attackers, he managed to inflict a head injury on one of the suspects.
Acting on the information provided, police operatives from the Isua Division swiftly mobilised to Obasanjo Motor Park in Isua at about 6:09 a.m., where they apprehended a suspect found with a visible head injury.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to being a member of the kidnapping gang. The victim also positively identified him, citing the injury sustained during the struggle.
The rescued victim has since been taken to a medical facility for treatment, while the suspect has been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for further investigation. Police authorities confirmed that the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police commended members of the public for providing timely and credible information, emphasizing the importance of community collaboration in tackling crime.
He also appreciated the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for his continued support and strategic guidance, which he said has enhanced operational effectiveness within the command.
The police reiterated their commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes across Ondo State and urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to support security agencies with useful information.
