2027: PETER OBI DECLARES ONE-TERM PRESIDENCY PLAN, VOWS NOT TO STAY BEYOND FOUR YEARS

PETER OBI DECLARES ONE-TERM PRESIDENCY PLAN, VOWS NOT TO STAY BEYOND FOUR YEARS

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has stated that he would serve only one term of four years if elected President of Nigeria, stressing that he has no intention of remaining in office beyond that period under any circumstance.

Obi made the declaration during an interview scheduled to air on News Central TV on Thursday. A clip from the interview has since circulated widely on social media, drawing reactions from political observers and supporters across the country.

In the interview, the former Anambra State governor said his position was driven by a desire to promote stability, accountability, and responsible leadership in Nigeria.

“I want to be a one-term president because of stability. I would not stay a day, with a gun to my head, longer than four years,” Obi said.

The former presidential candidate also used the opportunity to criticise the current state of Nigeria’s economy, expressing concerns over rising inflation, increased borrowing, and the growing cost of living affecting millions of Nigerians.

According to him, the country is currently facing one of its most difficult economic periods in recent history, adding that urgent and disciplined leadership is required to restore economic confidence and national development.

Peter Obi contested the 2023 presidential election under the platform of the Labour Party, where he finished third behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Since the conclusion of the 2023 election, Obi has remained one of the leading opposition voices in the country, frequently commenting on governance, economic reforms, and national issues.

His latest remarks on a possible single-term presidency are expected to further shape political discussions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
