MATO STORMS TO VICTORY AS APC UNVEILS ONDO REPS CANDIDATES AFTER TENSE PRIMARY BATTLES
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has concluded its House of Representatives primary elections across the nine federal constituencies in Ondo State, with Hon. Mathew Oye Oyerinmade, popularly known as MATO, emerging as the party’s candidate for the Odigbo/Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Federal Constituency.
The party’s National Assembly Primary Election Committee described the exercise as peaceful, transparent, and credible, noting that the process reflected the APC’s commitment to internal democracy ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Chairman of the committee, Hon. Iboroma Harry Dabibi, addressed journalists during a press briefing on Sunday, where he commended party leaders, delegates, and members across the state for maintaining order throughout the conduct of the primaries.
According to him, the committee successfully carried out its assignment in compliance with the Electoral Act and APC guidelines, adding that the peaceful atmosphere witnessed during the exercise demonstrated political maturity within the party.
Among the major highlights of the primaries was the emergence of Hon. Mathew Oye Oyerinmade (MATO), who secured 12,744 votes to clinch the APC ticket for the Odigbo/Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Federal Constituency.
Political observers described MATO’s victory as a significant development in the constituency, noting the level of support he received from delegates during the exercise.
Other candidates declared winners in their respective constituencies include:
Ifeoluwa Ehindero for Akoko North East/Akoko North West Federal Constituency with 22,304 votes.
Dr. Abiola Peter Makinde for Ondo West/Ondo East with 10,847 votes.
Dr. Daramola Olumuyiwa for Okitipupa/Irele with 6,547 votes.
Hon. Omowunmi Olatunji Ohwovoriole for Akure North/Akure South with 9,237 votes.
Hon. Adefarati Gboyega for Akoko South East/Akoko South West after votes scored by Dr. Ategbole Olusegun Victor were invalidated over screening issues.
Engr. Kayode Ijalana for Owo/Ose after votes recorded by Hon. Ayodeji Arowele Samuel were ruled invalid.
Rasak Obe for Idanre/Ifedore following the disqualification of votes cast for Hon. Adefisoye Tajudeen Adeyemi.
Akingboye Akinleke David for Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency with 9,284 votes.
The committee stated that all candidates were duly returned elected after securing the highest number of valid votes in their constituencies.
Dabibi also appealed to aggrieved aspirants and party supporters to embrace unity and work together for the success of the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He stressed the importance of reconciliation within the party, noting that the APC must remain focused on delivering victories for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all party candidates across Ondo State.
