JONATHAN DENIES LINKS TO PDP PRESIDENTIAL NOMINATION AHEAD OF 2027 ELECTION

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has dismissed speculations linking him to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The clarification was made on Wednesday by one of his media aides, Wealth Dickson Ominim-Imagwa, during an interview on News Central Television.

According to the aide, there is no indication that Jonathan is preparing to contest the presidency or has accepted any form of presidential nomination within the PDP.

The statement follows increasing political speculation and reports suggesting that some stakeholders within the opposition party were considering the former president for the party’s 2027 presidential ticket.

Reacting to the claims, Ominim-Imagwa stated that Jonathan has neither declared interest in the race nor authorised any individual or political group to obtain nomination forms or campaign on his behalf.

“There is no evidence anywhere that former President Goodluck Jonathan is running for president in 2027,” he said during the interview.

Political conversations surrounding Jonathan’s possible return to active partisan politics have intensified in recent weeks, especially after posters and endorsements linked to the former president surfaced in different parts of the country.

However, members of Jonathan’s camp have consistently distanced him from the activities, maintaining that he remains committed to democracy advocacy, peacebuilding efforts, and international engagements.

Jonathan served as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015 under the platform of the PDP before losing the 2015 presidential election to former President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The latest clarification is expected to calm ongoing speculations regarding the PDP’s potential lineup ahead of the 2027 elections.
