CHAOS ERUPTS AT ONDO APC SECRETARIAT AS SUSPECTED THUGS HALT REPS PRIMARY RESULTS ANNOUNCEMENT
Tension reportedly escalated at the Ondo State Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday evening after suspected thugs disrupted the ongoing announcement of House of Representatives primary election results for some federal constituencies in the state.
The incident occurred after members of the National Assembly Election Committee, led by Hon. Iboroma Harry Dabibi, arrived at the party secretariat around 7:00 p.m. to continue the announcement of outstanding results from six federal constituencies.
According to sources at the venue, the whereabouts of the committee members had remained unknown since Saturday night, delaying the official declaration of the remaining primary election results.
Eyewitnesses alleged that the situation turned chaotic when a disqualified aspirant from Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency reportedly arrived at the venue alongside individuals suspected to be political thugs in an attempt to stop the process.
Sources further claimed that the aspirant handed over his phone to the APC State Chairman, Hon. Babatunde Kolawole, to speak with a caller believed to be a senior female government official in the state. It was alleged that the caller advised the party leadership to suspend the announcement of the results pending the resolution of issues surrounding aspirants who were reportedly not cleared in Owo/Ose and Idanre/Ifedore federal constituencies.
The development reportedly created tension within the conference hall of the APC Secretariat, forcing committee members, journalists, party officials, and other attendees to flee the venue for safety.
Despite the presence of security personnel around the secretariat, suspected thugs allegedly chased several individuals out of the premises, disrupting the exercise.
Members of the election committee were reportedly heard expressing concerns over their safety, insisting that they could not continue the announcement under threatening conditions. The committee members subsequently left the venue and returned to their hotels.
Journalists and other observers at the scene also reportedly exited the secretariat hurriedly to avoid possible attacks.
As of the time this report was filed, the APC election committee had yet to officially announce the remaining results from the affected federal constituencies.
The APC leadership in Ondo State has not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
