FUBARA WITHDRAWS FROM RIVERS APC GOVERNORSHIP PRIMARY
Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has announced his withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial primaries ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the governor said the decision followed “deep reflection and extensive consultations” with family, friends, and associates.
Fubara stated that although the decision was difficult, he chose to step aside in the interest of peace, stability, and unity in Rivers State, stressing that leadership requires sacrifice for the greater good of the people.
According to him, Rivers State remains bigger than any individual ambition, adding that the current political climate demands restraint and commitment to maintaining harmony across the state.
The governor also expressed appreciation to his supporters for their loyalty, prayers, and sacrifices throughout his political consultations and preparations.
“I understand the disappointment, the anger, and the pain many of you may feel. Much has indeed been invested and much sacrificed along the way,” he said.
Fubara noted that his silence in recent weeks was intentional and guided by what he described as the “higher interest” of Rivers State.
He further stated that although he had faced “immense pressures and difficult choices,” his love for the state remained stronger than personal political ambition.
The Rivers governor thanked the leadership of the APC for providing him with a political platform during the process and also appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and encouragement.
He urged party members and supporters to remain united and committed to the progress of the APC, describing the party as their “collective home.”
Fubara maintained that his withdrawal should not be interpreted as an act of weakness or surrender, insisting that the move was made out of conviction and sacrifice to preserve peace in the state.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to continue serving the people of Rivers State until the expiration of his current tenure.
The development is expected to reshape the political landscape in Rivers State ahead of the gubernatorial contest.
