POLICE NAB 24 SUSPECTED AIYE CULT MEMBERS DURING INITIATION CEREMONY IN ONDO

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested 24 suspected members of the Aiye Confraternity during an alleged initiation ceremony and secret cult gathering in Ile-Oluji, Ondo State.

According to the police, the suspects were apprehended on Saturday, May 10, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation conducted by operatives of the Special Anti-Cultism Squad in Akure.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, who said the operation formed part of ongoing efforts by the Command to curb cultism and violent crimes across the state.

Police authorities stated that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects, all males, allegedly assembled from different parts of Ondo State and neighbouring areas for initiation rites and a secret cult meeting held in a bush around Ile-Oluji.

The Command noted that the operation was carried out without violence or disruption, adding that it helped prevent a possible threat to peace and public safety in the community.

Items reportedly recovered from the suspects included two crested caps linked to the Aiye confraternity, substances suspected to be Indian hemp, and several mobile phones believed to contain materials relevant to the investigation.

The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Adebowale Lawal, commended the operatives for what he described as their swift response and professionalism during the operation.

Lawal reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for cultism, criminal conspiracy, and other offences capable of undermining security and public order in the state.

He also warned individuals involved in cult-related activities to desist, stressing that the police would continue efforts to identify, track, and prosecute those linked to criminal acts.

The police said investigations were still ongoing to uncover the full extent of the alleged network and ensure that all persons found culpable are brought to justice in accordance with the law.

Residents of Ondo State were also encouraged to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to strengthen safety across communities.
