President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), following the completion of Professor Is-haq Oloyede’s two-term tenure scheduled to end on July 31, 2026.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Professor Aina, who will turn 40 in July, is regarded as a seasoned academic and technology expert with strong experience in digital infrastructure, institutional reforms, and examination systems management.
According to the statement, the new JAMB Registrar holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom. He also obtained a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security, as well as a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University, UK.
He additionally completed the Senior Management Programme at the Lagos Business School.
Professor Aina currently serves as a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife. His early involvement with JAMB reportedly began during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme, where he gained experience in admissions processing and institutional data systems.
The presidency noted that Aina has spent more than 15 years working across technology, public policy, and institutional transformation, advising federal and state governments on digital reforms and operational system improvements.
He also reportedly became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in Computer Engineering at the age of 39 and is now set to become the youngest Registrar in JAMB’s history.
Over the years, he has worked with several examination and education agencies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), and state ministries of education, focusing on ICT development, examination integrity, and digital process optimisation.
Professor Aina is also affiliated with several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the incoming registrar would build on the achievements recorded under Professor Oloyede’s leadership and further strengthen the operations of the examination body.
