MIMIKO’S DEFECTION TO APC STRENGTHENS AIYEDATIWA’S LEADERSHIP — ONDO APC CHAIRMAN
The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Hon. Kolawole Babatunde, has described the defection of former Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, to the ruling party as a major political development capable of strengthening the administration of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa and expanding the party’s influence across the state.
Dr. Mimiko formally joined the APC on Thursday during a political gathering held in Ondo Town, where he was received alongside a large number of supporters by party leaders, stakeholders, and loyalists from different parts of the state.
Speaking at the event, Babatunde said the former governor’s entry into the APC marks a significant milestone for the party, noting that Mimiko’s political experience and grassroots appeal would further consolidate the APC’s structure ahead of future political engagements.
The APC chairman described the former governor, popularly known as the “Great Iroko,” as a seasoned politician whose contributions to the development of Ondo State remain widely acknowledged.
According to him, Mimiko’s administration delivered notable projects in critical sectors including healthcare, education, and road infrastructure, as well as landmark projects such as the Ondo Dome.
Babatunde stated that the APC leadership was pleased to welcome the former governor into the party, adding that the development reflects growing support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Governor Aiyedatiwa’s Ease Agenda in Ondo State.
He further noted that Mimiko’s political network and influence would complement ongoing efforts by the APC-led government to deepen governance and deliver more developmental projects to residents of the state.
The event attracted party elders, youth groups, women leaders, and political stakeholders from across Ondo Kingdom, many of whom described the development as a strategic boost for the party.
In his remarks, Dr. Mimiko thanked the APC leadership for the reception accorded him and reaffirmed his commitment to the peace, unity, and progress of Ondo State.
The former governor also pledged to contribute to the growth and success of the APC both within the state and at the national level.
