MMG STRATEGIC MEETING: MATO DECLARES HOUSE OF REPS AMBITION, RALLIES SUPPORT FOR AIYEDATIWA’S CANDIDATES

The political atmosphere in Ondo South witnessed renewed momentum on Monday, May 12, 2026, as Hon. Mathew Oyerinmade, popularly known as Mato, convened a strategic meeting of the Mato Mandate Group (MMG) in Odigbo, Ondo State.

The meeting attracted more than 300 leaders drawn from the six local governments, 66 wards, and various political units across Ondo South Senatorial District, reaffirming the group’s grassroots strength and political influence within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

During the gathering, Oyerinmade officially declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat representing Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo–Odigbo Federal Constituency under the platform of the APC.

According to him, the decision followed consultations with party leaders and stakeholders, describing the move as both strategic and divinely inspired.

In his remarks, Oyerinmade expressed appreciation to God for the continued growth of the MMG since its establishment in June 2021. He also commended Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for his support and leadership.

“After God, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is the pillar of this movement,” he stated while addressing members at the meeting.

He further praised the leadership of MMG in Ondo South, led by Dr. (Chief) Williston, describing the political group as a united family built on loyalty, trust, and shared vision.

“MMG is the best and most lovely family,” Oyerinmade said, adding that the bond within the movement has remained strong over the years.

Reflecting on his political journey, Oyerinmade recalled his participation in the last senatorial election, where he emerged as runner-up. He noted that party stakeholders subsequently advised him to pursue the House of Representatives seat, a recommendation he said he accepted in good faith.

“I have picked the APC House of Representatives nomination form for Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo–Odigbo Federal Constituency, and I have also been screened. I remain grateful to the leader of the party, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for his guidance and support,” he stated.

The APC chieftain also reassured members of MMG that he would remain committed to the movement regardless of political developments.

“This movement is our family. I will never leave you. Together, we will continue to grow stronger and achieve greater victories,” he told supporters.

Oyerinmade used the occasion to urge MMG leaders and members to support aspirants endorsed by Governor Aiyedatiwa during the forthcoming APC primary elections.

According to him, unity and loyalty within the party remain essential for sustaining political success and strengthening the APC ahead of future elections.

“Our structure must work for all aspirants backed by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. This is the way to strengthen our party and ensure victory in the primaries and beyond,” he said.

The strategic meeting also highlighted MMG’s growing political relevance in Ondo South, particularly with the turnout of leaders from across the district.

Political observers noted that the movement’s strong grassroots presence could play a significant role in influencing electoral outcomes within the region.

Prince Fasawe, who spoke on the importance of the gathering, noted that the level of mobilization demonstrated MMG’s organizational strength and deep political reach across Ondo South.

Analysts further believe that Oyerinmade’s decision to contest for the House of Representatives seat reflects a calculated political strategy aimed at consolidating support within the Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo–Odigbo Federal Constituency.

With MMG maintaining close alignment with Governor Aiyedatiwa’s leadership within the APC, observers say the group remains strategically positioned ahead of the party primaries and future electoral contests.

For the Mato Mandate Group, the movement that began in 2021 appears set to continue with renewed momentum, while Oyerinmade’s House of Representatives ambition marks a new phase in the group’s political journey.
