“NO FIGHT, NO RANCOUR” — AIYEDATIWA ISSUES STRONG WARNING AHEAD OF APC NATIONAL ASSEMBLY PRIMARIES

Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has called on aspirants and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to maintain peace, discipline and orderliness ahead of the party’s National Assembly primary elections in the state.

The governor gave the charge on Friday during a stakeholders’ meeting with members of the APC National Assembly Election Committee held at the party secretariat in Akure.

According to the governor, the House of Representatives primaries are scheduled to hold on Saturday, while the Senate primary election will take place on Monday, May 18.

Governor Aiyedatiwa warned against violence, intimidation and actions capable of disrupting the credibility of the exercise, stressing that Ondo State has built a reputation for peaceful political engagements.

“There should be no rancour. There should be no fight. This is our party affair. Everyone should cooperate with one another,” the governor stated.

He reiterated that his administration would not interfere in the conduct of the primaries, assuring party members that adequate security arrangements had already been put in place across the state to guarantee peaceful proceedings.

The governor further clarified that the exercise remains strictly an internal party affair and would not affect normal business and movement within the state.

“This is purely party affairs. It has nothing to do with public election involving members of the public,” he added.

Aiyedatiwa also directed all eligible APC members to report to their designated ward centres by 8am with valid APC membership cards, noting that Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) would not be required for participation.

He explained that the direct primary method being adopted was consistent with the process previously used during the APC governorship primary election in Ondo State.

Earlier, the Chairman of the APC National Assembly Election Committee, Hon. Iboroma Harry Dabibi, assured stakeholders that the process would be transparent, credible and conducted in line with the party constitution and electoral guidelines.

Dabibi disclosed that stakeholders in Ondo State adopted the direct primary option, allowing accredited party members to queue behind posters of their preferred aspirants across the state’s 203 wards.

“All financially up-to-date party members will queue behind the poster of their preferred candidate across the 203 wards of the state,” he said.

He added that accreditation and voting would commence at 8am, while collation of results would be conducted across the nine federal constituencies before final declarations.

The committee chairman also warned against attempts to disrupt the exercise, urging aspirants and supporters to accept the outcome of the primaries peacefully.

According to him, only one candidate will emerge for each elective position through the process.

In his remarks, the Ondo State APC Chairman, Hon. Babatunde Kolawole, said the party had completed all logistical and security arrangements required for a smooth exercise.

Kolawole stated that the party leadership, in collaboration with security agencies, remains committed to ensuring a peaceful and transparent primary election across the state.

The APC also unveiled members of the National Assembly Primary Election Committee and the Appeal Committee ahead of the exercise.

The National Assembly Primary Election Committee is chaired by Hon. Iboroma Harry Dabibi, with Hon. Chief Tony Daniel Utazi, Hon. Ugboaga Collins Ugochukwu (JP), Hon. Barr. Chiedu Elemunoh, Sola Ojewusi and Jessy Jangnap serving as members, while Adamu Moh. Shamaki serves as Secretary.

Similarly, the Appeal Committee is chaired by Barr. Smart Iheazor, with Comr. Sunday Opeyemi Aremu, Hon. Aminu Bala Wudilawa and Ayuba Samaila as members, while Adebola Ilesanmi serves as Secretary.

The meeting was attended by the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, members of the State Executive Council, lawmakers, party leaders and other stakeholders.
