PRESIDENT TINUBU, AIYEDATIWA, MIMIKO, OTHERS HONOUR PA FASORANTI AT 100

Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Monday led a delegation of political leaders, traditional rulers, and eminent Nigerians to Akure, Ondo State, for the centenary celebration of Afenifere leader and elder statesman, Chief Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, OFR, CFR.

The event, held at Pa Fasoranti’s residence along Omolere Nursery and Primary School, Akure, attracted dignitaries from across the country who gathered to celebrate the elder statesman’s 100th birthday.

Speaking during the celebration, Vice President Shettima described Pa Fasoranti as a moral compass and a symbol of principled leadership whose life reflects courage, sacrifice, and dedication to national service.

According to him, the Afenifere leader belongs to a generation that shaped Nigeria’s history through commitment to justice, fairness, and public service.

“Shettima said Pa Fasoranti has consistently stood with the vulnerable and the underrepresented, choosing principle over convenience and service over silence throughout his public life.”

The Vice President noted that the elder statesman witnessed Nigeria’s colonial era, independence, military administrations, democratic struggles, and the current constitutional order, while remaining steadfast in his convictions.

He also highlighted Pa Fasoranti’s contributions to education, recalling that he began his career as a teacher before emerging as one of the country’s respected voices in national affairs.

On behalf of President Tinubu and the Federal Government, Shettima appreciated the elder statesman for his contributions to democracy, education, and nation-building, while praying for continued good health and strength.

In his remarks, Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, described Pa Fasoranti as a towering moral authority and a living institution whose life represents discipline, integrity, courage, and selfless service.

Governor Aiyedatiwa said the celebration was not only about longevity but also about honouring a life deeply connected to Nigeria’s moral and historical development.

According to the governor, Pa Fasoranti remains one of the few national figures whose influence is built on character and moral authority rather than political office or material wealth.

“He is a bridge between generations and a custodian of enduring values. His life teaches us that lasting greatness is founded on integrity, sacrifice, and truthfulness,” Aiyedatiwa said.

The governor urged younger Nigerians to emulate the centenarian’s humility, discipline, and commitment to public service.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, who also attended the event, described Pa Fasoranti as a national icon whose life continues to inspire admiration across the country.

Former Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, said the occasion was a celebration of dignity, honour, resilience, and principled leadership.

Mimiko noted that Pa Fasoranti personally preferred the event to be held at his residence, describing the elder statesman as humble despite his national stature.

“He is a complete man whose life offers enduring lessons in leadership, integrity, and service,” Mimiko stated.

The celebration attracted several prominent personalities, including Ondo State Deputy Governor, Dr Olayide Adelami; Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji; former Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi; former Osun State Deputy Governor, Senator Iyiola Omisore; and the Special Adviser to the President on General Duties, Dr Aliyu Modibbo Umar.

Also present were members of the National Assembly, state lawmakers, government officials, Afenifere leaders, and traditional rulers from across Yorubaland.

Traditional rulers at the event included the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, represented by Olori Aderonke Ademiluyi Ogunwusi; the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye; the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi; and the Osemawe of Ondo, Oba Victor Kiladejo.

Family members, friends, political associates, and well-wishers also attended the ceremony in honour of the elder statesman.
